Born in 1964, Alastair Greig studied composition with
Oliver Knussen before entering the Royal Academy of Music
in London. Further study followed at the universities
of Sussex and Birmingham where he worked with, amongst
others, Michael Finnissy and Vic Hoyland. He has received
commissions from a number of ensembles and performers
including BCMG, Rolf Hind, the Lyric Quartet, Virelai. His work has been awarded a number of prizes throughout Europe including the Serocki International Competition (Poland); Contilli Award, First Prize (Sicily); Dutilleux Prize (France); Stockhausen Foundation (Germany); Eurorchestries Composition Competition (France); Epic Prize, finalist (Italy) and First Prize in the recent Francesc Civil Award (Spain). His work has featured at festivals throughout the United Kingdom and been performed and broadcast in the Republic of Ireland, Switzerland, Croatia, Italy, France, Poland etc. |
