From the 13th to the 22 October sixteen artists from different parts of the world will gather in the Italian region Friuli, at a symposium dedicated to the sound and mixed media art. They were hosted for ten days in Topolo'/Topolove, a lovely village near the border between Italy and Slovenia, where a research workshop on the changes that characterised the musical praxis in the last years was formed.
Many elements have significantly influenced the contemporary music panorama, bringing a series of innovations from the simple re-interpretation hybridation of the concert events, up to the creation of radically new ways of expressions; Interactions between art and technology, awareness of ones place in the acoustic space and concepts of sound landscapes, along with contamination and the availability of information.
The participants of Pushing the Medium are placed at the margins of the academic environments, but they represent a cultural phenomenon that cannot be neglected. They have all published a number of records, publications, live concerts, being actively involved in international projects.
Each of them usually follows a path of individual research. In this occasion they present themselves in a collective way with a concert by eleven players that represents the synthesis and the outcome of the 10-day workshop, as well as their activities of collaboration, discussion of shared experience.
